For all greek citizens who live in the greek islands of Eastern Aegean Sea , an historical Roro Passenger/Cargo ferry was so strong concerned with their daily life : ICAROS . The ship was travelling on the line Samos-Piraeus carrying people and trades. As it happens to all ships , the death of the ship it was an expectable situation. So, let's see above the all life of ICAROS.
It was built as KATTEGAT
on 1961 by Marinens Hoved with ID 5184071 and Flag. Den. Grt. 2375.
Description : 80.5m (265ft) long, 15m
(50ft) wide width with a draught of 9.5 m (31ft)
On 1969 it has been renamed to NORDEK
On 1973 it has been renamed to CORSICA STAR
On 1979 it has been renamed to IKAROS on the line Samos-Ikaria-Riraeus
On 1997 it has been renamed to CAPTAIN ZAMAN (Owner/Manager/ Diler Feribot Tagmaciligi under Turkish flag) making trips fron Istanbul to Odessa.
On 2000 changed to SS JASSIM, with
Bolivian flag (Owner by Al Ramzani Sea
Transport of Qatar) and registered in La Paz (Bolivia).
Finally it sank at the Wingate Reef anchorage on 1 December 2003. More especially at the follow point with coordinates 19°38'46"N 37°17'42"E and neardy to Shareef Makkawi (Sudan) .
Now it's one of the most famous shipwrecks visible on Google Earth in Red Sea
